Did You Know - Shred Policy

By Lisa R. Brame & Jack E. White DLA Intelligence Columbus

Implementation of 100% Shred Policy.

Did you know the DLA Land and Maritime Commander, Navy Rear Adm. Skubic, implemented the above mentioned policy on March 24, 2017. The policy mandates all sensitive unclassified information (i.e. critical information, PII, rosters, notes, reports, FOUO, etc.) be destroyed upon completion of use using an approved cross-cut shredder, or placed in one of the collection receptacles that are placed throughout the Land and Maritime facilities.

Additional countermeasures that must be used to safeguard our sensitive information includes enforcing the “need to know” principle; encrypting electronic communications (email); and ensuring conversations regarding sensitive information cannot be overheard. Adhering to this policy makes it increasingly difficult for the adversary to get a clear picture of our capabilities, intentions and limitations.
