PHILADELPHIA –
More than a dozen family members made the trip from Mississippi to see the promotion of Army Lt. Col. Latrina Lee at the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support auditorium April 6.
“As I look around the room and see so many of my family and friends, I feel so blessed and fortunate,” Lee said.
Lee is Troop Support’s chief of current operations and Brig. Gen. Mark Simerly, commander, officiated the ceremony.
Lee said family has always been a central part of her life, and that it was the accidental death of her brother when she was 19 years old that drove her to join the Army.
“My brother was one of my biggest supporters,” Lee said. “My brother would’ve wanted me to have the best in my best life. So that drive took me to walk into that (Reserve Officer Training Corp) building and sign up to be a soldier.
“I know my brother would be proud of me,” Lee said.
Lee’s niece, Army Spc. Nia Davis, serves as a human resources specialist with the Mississippi Army National Guard and attended the ceremony.
Davis said that her aunt’s service inspired her to join the Army nearly four years ago.
“My aunt had something to do with me enlisting,” Davis said.
Davis, a full-time student at the University of Southern Mississippi, said that she hopes to attend Officer Candidate School to earn a commission and achieve the success her aunt has in her Army career.
