SAN DIEGO, Calif. –
Naval Base San Diego commanding officer Navy Capt. Roy Love, visited DLA Distribution San Diego, California, as part of a High Performance Leadership Engagement event March 9.
Love shared his leadership philosophy which includes collaboration and communication as keys to any successful organization. He also discussed Naval Base San Diego’s 2035 Plan which highlights growth and an increased footprint in the coming years.
“Taking the time to listen to our sailors can mean a world of difference to not only that individual but the overall culture and climate of the command,” explained Love. “I appreciate the support DLA Distribution San Diego provides to the ships and as a tenant command of the base, I suspect you experience some of the same challenges I experience.”
As part of DLA Distribution San Diego’s continued strategy to develop leaders and build strong partnerships across the region, senior leaders were invited to participate in High Performance Leadership discussions as a way to provide training and mentorship for San Diego’s up and coming leaders as well as the current supervisory team. The intent is to provide leaders, from both government and service provider, at all sites, strategic perspectives on challenges, resource constraints and problem solving ideas utilized by senior officers who have served in key leadership positions.
“I really appreciated Capt. Love’s High Performance Leadership discussion because it provided us an opportunity to better understand the challenges and difficulties his team faces, such as the wait times when entering the base in the morning. Explaining the big picture and addressing many of our concerns has given us a new appreciation for those challenges. They are doing what they can with the limited resources but without sacrificing the safety and security of the base and all who work here,” said Ricardo Miranda, DLA Distribution San Diego stock readiness lead.
“I thought Capt. Love was motivational and straight to the point when discussing issues related to administration of the base. He mentioned his door was always open and that any of us were welcome to stop by. I thought he was very insightful and thought provoking at the same time,” said Steve Essex, DLA Distribution San Diego facilities specialist.
