PHILADELPHIA –
A river of teal moved across the Naval Support Activity Philadelphia compound to show the unified support of tenant organizations for sexual assault awareness and prevention April 24.
In continued recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the “Walk a Mile in their Shoes” event brought the installation together to display support for those affected by the trauma of sexual assault. The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support was well represented in the crowd.
“I was impressed by the number of people that came out for the walk,” said Jane Won, Equal Employment Opportunity specialist at Troop Support. “The wave of support was a powerful message that spoke to a very important topic.”
Participants received teal t-shirts with this year’s theme of “Protecting our People Protects our Mission” printed across the front, and “I pledge to do my part” on the sleeve. The messages reinforced the importance of recognizing the traumatic impact of sexual assault on those affected, its impact on the workforce and the power of individual action in the effort to end sexual assault.
“It was a great event,” said Ella Wynn, Troop Support’s Sexual Assault Response coordinator. “I loved seeing the whole installation come together as one voice standing up, speaking out and walking together to say ‘We stand together, we support you [sexual assault survivors] and we will not tolerate sexual assault.’”
As Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month comes to a close, employees are reminded that SAPR is a year-round topic of conversation. More information can be found on the DLA SAPR webpage.
