Incoming DLA Pacific commander visits Distribution, discusses support to Pacific Command

By Emily Tsambiras DLA Distribution Public Affairs

To discuss DLA Distribution’s mission capabilities and support to the Pacific Command Area of Responsibility, Navy Supply Corps Capt. Kristin Acquavella, incoming commander to DLA Pacific, visited DLA Distribution Headquarters and its largest distribution center, DLA Distribution Susquehanna, April 26.

During her stop at headquarters, Acquavella, who is set to replace Capt. Timothy Daniels in June, met with the organization’s leadership regarding its support to PACOM, particularly through use of its Expeditionary Team (DDXX) and its new distribution site in Japan.

When Acquavella asked, “How does this [Major Subordinate Command] balance efficiency and readiness?” DLA Distribution commanding general Army Brig. Gen. John Laskodi responded that “Readiness is DLA Distribution’s priority.”

Specifically, he explained how the organization is working to integrate DDXX into more joint exercises and into the Operations Plans for the Combatant Commands.  The team- which performs distribution operations, warehousing, and, when required, obtains facilities/equipment anywhere in the world where Distribution may not currently have a permanent site- recently deployed for Combined Forces Command/US Forces Korea Combined Distribution Exercise 2017.

Laskodi also mentioned the organization’s response to requests from the Combatant Commands to move out even closer to the warfighter, especially in the Pacific.  Citing the opening of a Theater Consolidation and Shipping Point in Iwakuni, Japan, he announced that DLA Distribution is creating major growth opportunities in the AOR, and is also slated to open another site in Okinawa in fall 2018.

Following the meeting, Acquavella visited DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pa.’s Eastern Distribution Center, the largest distribution center within the Department of Defense, where she received a firsthand view of DLA Distribution preparing supplies for troops located around the globe.

Acquavella comes to DLA from her current position as the Maintenance, Materiel & Services Division Chief on the Joint Staff.
