Erno becomes newest commander of DLA Distribution Sigonella

Navy Supply Corps Cmdr. Vincent V. Erno assumed command of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Sigonella, Italy, in a May 23 ceremony.  The ceremony was officiated by DLA Europe and Africa commander Army Col. Theodore B. Shinkle.

Erno is a native of San Diego, California.  He graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1999 with a Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management. He also obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Supply Chain Management in 2009 from the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California as well as a Master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island. He entered the U.S. Navy through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola FL, where he was commissioned an Ensign in November 1999. 

Prior to his current assignment, Erno served as Europe and Africa Regional Desk officer, Joint Logistics Operations Center as well as Deputy, Navy National Account Manager, J3 Directorate, Headquarters Defense Logistics Agency, Ft. Belvoir, VA; Supply Chain Management, N3/4 Directorate as well as speechwriter for the Chief of Supply Corps Commander’s Action Group, Naval Supply Systems Command, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; Fleet Operations Director, Fleet Logistics Center San Diego, CA; Pacific Fleet Carrier Readiness Officer and Allowancing Officer, Commander, Naval Air Forces, San Diego, CA.

Erno’s initial duty station was as Supply Officer Department Head, USS Defender (MCM 2). He also served afloat as Aviation Support Division Officer (S-6)/ Services Officer, USS Nimitz (CVN 68) where he deployed to the 5th Fleet AOR in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Promoted to Commander in September 2015, his awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, five Navy Commendation Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, as well as Expert Rifle and Expert Pistol Medals.  Erno is a Joint Qualified Officer, a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps and is qualified to wear the Aviation and Surface Warfare Supply Corps Officer Insignias.
