DLA Energy Japan holds change of command ceremony

By Stephanie Buggs DLA Energy Public Affairs

The Defense Logistics Agency Energy Japan bid farewell to Air Force Lt. Col. Kevin Campbell during a change of command ceremony at Yokota Air Base, Japan, May 31.

Campbell departed for Misawa Air Base, Japan, where he will serve as the commander of the 35th Logistics Readiness Squadron.

“To the men and women of DLA Energy Japan, I can’t thank you enough,” Campbell said. “You are always there at every opportunity; from team building events, to unwavering support for each other and the mission. You are an amazing group of professionals, but you’re an even more amazing team!”

Incoming commander, Air Force Maj. Justin D’Agostino, is the ninth commander since the DLA Energy Japan office opened 24 years ago. He recently served as the operations officer for the Directorate of Logistics, U.S. Forces Korea, Yongsan Army Garrison, Republic of Korea.

During the ceremony, D’Agostino shared his initial reaction to being selected for command.

“When I found out my family and I were coming to DLA Energy Japan, I was surprised,” he said. “I was surprised because I thought, if I were lucky enough to be selected for a command, I would join a unit with a much smaller sphere of influence and scope of responsibility. When I found out I was to be entrusted with leading the unit responsible for energizing U.S. forces and government agencies throughout Japan, it did not take long for it to dawn on me how awesome of a responsibility this is.”

DLA Pacific Commander Navy Capt. Timothy Daniels presided over the event. He provided D’Agostino words of wisdom as he took command.

“Justin, as an old ’fuelie‘ my charge to you is simple,” he said. “Continue developing the Energy Japan team by fostering a diverse, innovative and professional workforce. They are vital to you and our collective successes.”

As D’Agostino begins a new milestone in his life, he said he feels honored to serve with the phenomenal team of DLA Energy Japan.

“Fueling U.S. forces and other government agencies in Japan is a great responsibility, but as my new team showed me, it’s not a solitary endeavor; it’s a team effort,” he said. “Let us keep the energy supply chain in motion!”

This is D’Agostino’s first assignment with DLA.
