PA Community and Economic Development Secretary visits central PA military installation

DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Dennis Davin, secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, recently visited DLA Distribution, located on the Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna installation, which is also home to the Department of Defense’s largest warehouse, the Eastern Distribution Center.

Prior to touring the warehouse, Davin met with DLA Distribution headquarters deputy commander Twila Gonzales, Senior Executive Service, as well as key staff members who updated him on the current mission priorities of the organization.

After highlighting the organization’s global mission of delivering effective and efficient distribution solutions enabling troop readiness through its more than 50 worldwide locations, Davin learned of the scope of DLA Distribution Susquehanna’s mission.

“DDSP is the largest strategic asset for DoD, primarily due to its strategic location within one of the country’s logistics capitols,” said Scott Rosbaugh, DLA Distribution Future Plans director.  “This distribution center performs approximately 30 percent of DLA’s global volume.”

The briefing also highlighted the installation’s many amenities available to the local community such as the Susquehanna Club and golf course, as well as the Fillmore Health Clinic, which supports over 3,000 active and retired military families.

At the conclusion of the brief, Davin commented that Congress sees the installation as a key facility in central Pennsylvania, evidenced by its recent approval of several Military Construction projects, such as the water tower currently being installed on the installation.

“Hopefully you have a better feel for who we are and what we do. I’m pretty proud of the mission we support and the surrounding community support we receive,” said Gonzales.

During his tour of DLA Distribution Susquehanna’s Eastern Distribution Center, Davin was shown receiving operations for mission receipts and field returns, dedicated truck lanes serving Continental U.S. and Outside the Continental U.S. customers with time definite deliveries, and the Consolidation Containerization and Shipping Point where materiel is consolidated into loads destined to OCONUS customers through the use of seavan containers.
