Camp Arifjan, Kuwait –
Members of DLA Installation Operations Battle Creek and Europe and Africa recently conducted site and customer engagement visits at DLA Disposition Services sites in Germany, Kuwait and Qatar.
Don Phillips, DLA Installation Operations at Battle Creek Director visited Kleber Kaserne, Germany; Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; and Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. Site surveys during visits were used to ensure construction projects are moving forward, liaison with host real property and engineering staff and support the Defense Logistic Agency’s real property inventory.
“There have been major improvements over the past three years; however, we need to continue to focus on ensuring resources are there and appropriate support is provided,” Phillips said.
The team met with DLA Disposition Services leaders in the area to accelerate site projects and provide handover information to Europe and Africa engineers who will take over management of engineer projects in Kuwait and Qatar.
A key recommendation from the team was for DLA Disposition Services to have a representative at the 379th Civil Engineer Squadron Joint Facility Utilization Board meeting scheduled for mid-June. Phillips said the opportunity could be used to promote a phased occupation of 15 acres of base property in Qatar currently occupied by U.S. Air Force war reserve material. The move is needed because the team believes current site facilities are insufficient for anticipated workload and the current location is substandard for the DLA civilian and military workforce.
“DLA Disposition Services Central continues to focus on the warfighter at the very tip of the spear and it is our mission to support their efforts” Phillips said.
