NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
In a ceremony held in the DLA Distribution Headquarters lobby, senior leaders, military members and civilian staff celebrated the U.S. Army’s 243rd Birthday on June 14, 2018. Distribution’s chief of staff, Perry Knight spoke about the significance and history of the day.
“Since its official establishment, June 14, 1775, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Army has played a vital role in the growth and development of our nation,” said Knight.
On June 14, 1775, Congress adopted the American Continental Army, raising 10 companies of riflemen, approving an enlistment form, and appointing a committee to draft rules and regulations. The following day, George Washington was unanimously chosen as the commander of all continental forces.
With several distribution centers co-located with Army customers, DLA Distribution provides the right things, at the right place, at the right time to Army customers. DLA Distribution Anniston, Ala., DLA Distribution Corpus Christi, Texas, DLA Distribution Tobyhanna, Pa. and DLA Distribution Red River, Texas, are all collocated with Army, with a total of 118,000 national stock numbers, $35 billion in inventory and 690,000 lines received/issued at these collocated sites.
“The Army continues to follow in the footsteps of all those solders who have come before,” said Knight. “Everyone here today, whether you are active duty, reserve, veteran, retiree or civilian has demonstrated the same versatility, the same adaptability, the same readiness to get the job done regardless of circumstances…whenever OUR nation has called, the Army answered and answered decisively.”
