YOKOSUKA, Japan –
Diane Jarvi, inventory director at DLA Distribution Yokosuka, Japan, is saying goodbye to the DLA family upon her retirement from federal service after 40 years of dedicated service to the nation, DLA Distribution Yokosuka, Japan and the warfighter. Her official retirement date was July 1.
From June 1978 to April 1992 Jarvi worked for the Naval Supply Center Puget Sound, working her way from a GS-02, Supply Clerk to a WL-05, Material Handler Leader. She was instrumental in the planning and execution of the transfer of automated systems from NISTARS to Distribution Standard System; even co-writing the first training manuals for COSIS. At the same time, the supply center came under the operation of DLA Distribution, and she was transferred to DLA Distribution Puget Sound. It was there that Jarvi performed as one of the team leads, in which she was recognized as part of the Most Efficient Organization team award for the A-76 competition.
Jarvi left Bremerton in 2002 and has been on the move ever since. She moved to Japan and started working for DLA Distribution Yokosuka, Japan as a receiving supervisor. In 2005, she left Japan to be the accountable officer at DLA Distribution Korea. She was one of the first employees to be assigned to Korea, and instrumental in the successful stand-up of that Distribution Center. Following seven successful years in Korea, she returned to Bremerton for a short period of time before heading back overseas. This time, she was promoted to operations supervisor at Disposition Services in Molesworth, England. While working in England, Jarvi was deployed to Camp Victory, in Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. It was during this deployment that she earned the Global War on Terrorism Medal. Leaving England in 2009, Jarvi went to DLA Disposition Services Pearl Harbor as operations supervisor. After spending two years in Hawaii, she headed to Naples, Italy with DLA Distribution Sigonella. There, she served as officer in charge of the Navy Warehouse Transfer. After that tour ended, she returned to Disposition Services Pearl Harbor for two years. Diane finally came back to Yokosuka again, this time as the inventory director.
Jarvi has been awarded the DLA Meritorious Civilian Service Award for her numerous accomplishments while serving as inventory director, DLA Distribution Yokosuka, Japan from January 2015 to June 2018.
“As you know, I am retiring after 40 years of government service. I have been very fortunate to work for DLA and to have worked in so many countries, learning about so many cultures,” she said.
Mr. Roy Jewell, deputy commander of DLA Distribution Yokosuka, Japan, said of Jarvi, “Her expertise and positive influence will be truly missed. Her positive attitude, care and concern for her workers, and her desire to move her department forward will leave a hole of compassion in DDYJ. Though her position will be back-filled, her love for her job and compassion for her employees is something that will not easily be replaced, if at all”.
