Agency cuts the ribbon at new Humphreys site

By Tim Hoyle DLA Disposition Services

Defense Logistics Agency employees at Gimcheon, South Korea, recently celebrated the official Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for their new collection point at Camp Humphreys.

Disposal Services Representative Ed Forbes from the DLA Disposition Services team there said the new 110,000 square foot satellite site offers its four person staff a robust processing area that will enable efficient processing of material.

“This new location will enhance the successful customer engagement strategy of this organization, as well as enhance our warfighter support,” Forbes said.

During the development of the site, Area Manager Terry Harrington said it provides DLA Disposition Services personnel with a facility on the garrison that is outfitted with plumbing, power, heating and air condition, local area network access, phone lines, and structured Ethernet cabling. Harrington also said the new site will increase storage and receipt capacity by 10 percent with the additional 2.52 acres of laydown area. He said this will help with the emphasis the Army has placed on Class II and Class VII retrograde peninsula wide.

“From the outset, we'll accept containers, scrap metal and DEMIL A vehicles,” Harrington said. “Demilitarization operations will not occur there; that organic, in-house capability will continue to occur at Gimcheon.”

Attendees for the ceremony included local warfighters; DLA Pacific Commander Navy Capt. Timothy Daniels and Army Col. Brent Coryell, deputy commander; and DLA Disposition Services personnel.
