DLA Distribution supports Army LRC initiatives

DLA Distribution Public Affairs

DLA Distribution is working with DLA HQ, Army G4, Army Materiel Command and Army Sustainment Command on a Proof of Principle to reduce customer wait time and on-hand inventory costs for Army Installation Supply Support Activities at Fort Carson, Colorado, and Fort Drum, New York.

While both PoPs have the same desired end state, they are designed differently. DLA Distribution San Joaquin is supporting the Fort Carson PoP, where DLA material is forward positioned at Fort Carson and Army contractors are performing the storage and distribution using DSS. DDJC has a Quality Assurance Evaluator on site to monitor compliance to DLA processes.

DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania is supporting the Fort Drum PoP, where we are leveraging velocity within the DLA network to meet the desired end sate. The DDSP team worked with Fort Drum to develop tailored stops and modify delivery frequency for their scheduled truck lane to support the initiative goals.

These initiatives positively impact DLA’s relationship with the Army by providing supply and distribution solutions to assist them in achieving cost savings across their Logistics Readiness Centers.

“This has larger potential implications for non-tactical warehouse consolidation reform efforts for the entire Department of Defense,” said Army Col. Brad Eungard, former commander, DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.

The LRC Fort Carson PoP is a great example of how the DLA Enterprise, in collaboration with the Army, have come together to tailor a logistics inventory solution for the Warfighter, said U.S. Navy Capt. Frank E. Nevarez, chief, Retail Operations Support, Fort Carson, Colorado.

“This PoP will focus on decreasing customer wait time and Non-Mission Capable Supply across Fort Carson Operational Units for Maintenance Significant Parts items while eliminating redundant DOD inventory,” said Nevarez.
