“This is an Agency-wide effort,” said DLA Land and Maritime Commander Navy Rear Admiral John Palmer. “DLA is participating in a cross-DOD financial audit and has approximately 18,000 property assets at over 550 sites worldwide. The DLA Director prioritized this effort to strengthen DLA’s inventory accountability, so mobilizing the task force will help us confirm our inventory locations, condition and value.”

The RPTF was created to support the Fiscal Year 2018 audit objective of creating a baseline inventory of all DLA Real Property assets. The RPTF’s plan is to complete the real property inventory by the end of September to establish an Agency wide baseline inventory for the pending Fiscal Year 2019 audit.

DLA Land and Maritime recruited over 20 associates who volunteered for the RPTF. Initial training for task force members was held at the Defense Supply Center Columbus, Ohio in April 2018.

Land and Maritime RPTF team leads and team members are currently working out of DSCC’s building 306 and spend their days preparing for field site visits, traveling to the inventory locations, performing on-site real property inventories and completing the DLA RPTF inventory results for submission to the Property Management Office.

DLA Land and Maritime’s RPTF personnel were assigned to canvas the Midwest Region, which includes 12 states. The team is led by DSCC’s Site Director, Dan Bell. Other regional areas to be inventoried include the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southwest and Pacific West.

The RPTF Midwest Region team is comprised of nine smaller teams with members and leads from DLA Land and Maritime, as well as employees from other areas within DLA and the Joint Reserves. Each team consists of one or two team members and a team lead and are responsible for the physical inventory of more than 1,100 assets at 41 sites across states in the Midwest region.

All nine Midwest Region teams deployed July 16 to complete their portion of DLA’s national inventory. To date, the team has inventoried more than 800 assets located at 20 sites.

Upon completion, the Midwest Region team will forward their data to the RPTF where it will be compiled and used in further DLA asset documentation requirements.
