The Defense Supply Center Columbus concluded a month-long food drive, collecting 9,143 pounds of goods that will go on to support more than 525,000 individuals in Central Ohio. The goods were donated to a local food bank Sept. 18. The food drive was part of an annual summer event, Feds Feed Families. “As one of the largest employers in the greater Columbus area, we’re committed to doing our part to help our community,” said DSCC and DLA Land and Maritime Commander Navy Rear Adm. John T. The food drive was part of an annual summer event, Feds Feed Families. The installation has participated in this completely voluntary effort that allows the Federal workforce to directly impact the community where they live and work since its inception in 2009.

Associates donated many critical food items needed including peanut butter, soups containing vegetables, tuna, chili with beans and canned meat, vegetables and fruit as well as critical non-food items such as diapers, personal hygiene items and pet food.

“We already have a plan in action for next year and I think we’ll be able to assist even more families in need,” said Richard Bechand, DLA Land and Maritime FFF program coordinator.

The FFF program is just one of many the installation participates in to support the local community throughout the year.

The next community support program is the Combined Federal Campaign that recently opened its centralized pledge portal Sept. 10 and remains open until Jan. 11.

CFC is the world’s largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign, with almost 200 CFC campaigns throughout the country and overseas raising millions of dollars each year.
