Distribution acquisition specialist honored with commander coin

By Brianne M. Bender DLA Distribution Command Affairs

In an effort to boost morale and talk face-to-face with DLA Distribution headquarters employees, Distribution Commanding Officer Navy Rear Adm. Kevin M. Jones, has implemented a monthly employee recognition program. Directorates are to provide names of their heavy hitters—those who have gone above and beyond to ensure the mission of DLA Distribution is met and exceeded, and Jones presents them with a commander’s coin and a thank you.

On Feb. 1, the director of DLA Distribution’s Acquisition directorate, Gene Surmacz, selected DLA Distribution Acquisition Specialist, Joshua Woodworth to receive a coin.

Woodworth is responsible for the procurement and management of a suite of six construction multiple award indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contracts as well as other construction type contracts for DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. Due to the high volume of work at the Susquehanna installation issued under the multiple award contracts, he had to re-compete and award a follow-on suite of contracts early with a five-year contract period of performance and an estimated value of $40 million, while still executing numerous end of fiscal year procurements exceeding $10 million in support of the installation.

“Joshua exemplifies dedication, commitment and professionalism, not only to his customers but to key acquisition initiatives,” explained Surmacz. “He leads by example with his high work standards, devotion to exceeding expectations and impeccable contractual documentation.”

Additionally, Woodworth serves as an Army major under the 915th Contracting Battalion performing contingency contracting.
