Scholarships available for students of Defense Logistics Agency employees

By DLA Foundation

The DLA Foundation is offering scholarships to students who have a close family connection to a current or past civilian or military Defense Logistics Agency employee. A child, stepchild, grandchild, niece, or nephew of a current or former DLA military or civilian employee has a close family connection.

Scholarship applications will be accepted beginning Feb. 11. The application period will close on March 29 at midnight Eastern Standard Time. Award announcements will occur in late May. Up to 30 scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded. Merit and financial need are the main criteria upon which applications will be judged.

Applicants must be high school seniors or college students who will attend an undergraduate school or trade/technical school as a full-time student in academic year 2019-2020 (at least 12 semester hours). Appointees to military service academies are not eligible. Students must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, Student Aid Report will be used to determine financial need.

The DLA Foundation scholarships are made possible through the Foundation’s fundraising activities, such as the Golf Outing normally held in September, and the Beer Tasting, normally held in December, and through the Combined Federal Campaign and other donations to the Foundation.

In addition to scholarships from the Foundation’s general fund, there are two sponsored scholarships:
- A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded through the Major General Charles R. Henry Scholarship to a current or former DLA military wounded warrior or his/her spouse, child, or grandchild.
- A $2,000 scholarship will be awarded through a donor-funded scholarship in honor of Frank Lotts for a child, stepchild, grandchild, niece, or nephew of a current or former DLA military or civilian employee who is pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math.
