DLA Aviation-Jacksonville commander lays out her vision for future warfighter support during town hall

By Leon Moore DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation-Jacksonville Commander Navy Cmdr. Monica Frey held her town hall Feb. 28.

She kicked off the town hall by presenting awards and recognitions for years of service before getting into the details concerning her vision and goals for the future of DLA Jacksonville’s support to the warfighter.

“It’s a time that allows the team to interact directly with me through an unfiltered process and get real time answers to questions. It also provides the opportunity to recognize individual and team accomplishments. I just love any opportunity that gets the team together in one place to celebrate us,” she said.

Frey said it’s critically important that the organization hears directly from her when it comes to what her vision, goals and expectations are, ensuring everyone is on the same page. She said she set some lofty goals when she took command last year and uses town halls as a way of holding herself and the DLA Jacksonville leadership team accountable to the employees and the goals.

She said the DLA Aviation-Jacksonville team is focusing on increasing the readiness of Navy and Marine Corps F/A 18 Super Hornet fighter jets by working to reduce material delays for parts needed to keep them flying. The Navy’s overall goal is to have 341 mission capable Rhino’s, as F/A 18 Super Hornets are called, by October. Right now, the Navy is sitting at around 270.

Frey said her goals falls in line with those of Fleet Readiness Center Southeast and the entire Naval Aviation Enterprise.

“We will tackle this one requisition, expedite and procurement at a time and we will do this as one DLA Aviation Jacksonville team. Every function of this command has a role in supporting the Naval Sustainment Strategy, whether its order fulfillment, planning, tech quality, procurement, information technology support, or human resources – everyone is critical,” Frey said.
