DLA Installation Support for Distribution’s Mellon presented commander’s coin

By Brianne M. Bender DLA Distribution Command Affairs

Glenn Mellon, an equipment specialist for DLA Installation Support for Distribution – Engineering & Equipment Division, received a commander’s coin during DLA Distribution Commanding Officer Navy Rear Adm. Kevin M. Jones’ employee recognition event Feb. 26.

Mellon’s primary duties include administration and training associated with the Defense Property Accountability System. Due to demand, most DPAS training classes are only held in continental U.S. locations.

As such, DLA Distribution Sigonella, Italy’s Equipment Specialist Marcello Massimino was due to arrive in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania late in the evening and attend DPAS Training at New Cumberland the following morning.

Mellon, knowing that this was Massimino’s first time in America, and between language and road differences — and the fact that it was near midnight by the time he arrived — it would be difficult to navigate his way from the airport to the hotel, took it upon himself to meet Massimino at the airport to help him navigate to his hotel and make sure he made it on time to his DPAS training.

Additionally, Mellon learned Massimino had always wanted to see Washington D.C.  Therefore, over the weekend he drove him down on his time to see the nation’s capital.

“While he wasn’t wild about sharing this story for recognition – this act truly epitomizes the way Glenn does his job on a daily basis.  His honest, common-sense approach has been a tremendous benefit to our organization,” said Bill Holz, director, DLA Installation Management for Distribution.
