COLUMBUS, Ohio –
Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s People and Culture organization and the Wellness Council hosted an Elder Care Resource Fair where associates found resources on planning and caring for the elderly.
More than a dozen county, state and federal resources along with a couple of nonprofit organizations were on site at Defense Supply Center Columbus Aug. 20 sharing planning and resource information with DSCC associates. The following organizations were present: Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging, Ohio Attorney General’s Elder Justice Unit, Ohio Department of Aging’s Communications and Government Outreach, Franklin County Job and Family Services’ Adult Protective Services, Franklin County’s Caregiver Support Senior Options, Social Security, Long-term Care Ombudsman for Central Ohio, Ohio Department of Insurance’s Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program, BBB Serving Central Ohio, Ohio Council for Cognitive Health, VA Medical Center, Chaplain Liaison Program, Wellness Council and the People and Culture Directorate.
“More than 300 people attended this year’s event in a steady stream for the full two hours,” said DLA Land and Maritime Resiliency Program Manager Brenda Minnema. “I believe it was the best fair we’ve had yet. I'm glad so many people received the help they need.”
The Elder Care Resource Fair was held in the Building 20 Buckeye and Cardinal Rooms between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Participants from DLA Land and Maritime, Human Resources, Training, Installation Management, J-6, J-8, Defense Information Systems Agency, Defense Finance and Accounting Service, DOD Human Resources, and other organizations visited with agency representatives to discuss planning, local resources, personal and quality care for older adults.
The balance that an individual needs between work and other aspects of life is important enough that it is part of the DLA Strategic Plan's People and Culture Plan. The People and Culture organization in collaboration with the Wellness Council will continue to support work/life balance through future Elder Care resource opportunities.
