Distribution Anniston's Hurtado named 2019 Outstanding Department of Defense Employee with Disability

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Douglas Hurtado, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Anniston, Alabama, received the 2019 Secretary of Defense Award for Outstanding Department of Defense Employees and Service Members with Disabilities.

Hurtado, along with twenty-three military personnel were honored during the 39th annual Secretary of Defense Disability Awards Ceremony at the Pentagon Oct. 3.

The award recognizes achievements, excellence and contributions of civilian employees and service members with disabilities.

Hurtado’s work ethic and drive for excellence have made him an invaluable part of the DDAA Weapons Division. He often takes time away from his workload to resolve issues in other areas and his attention to detail and desire for excellence are an example for our other weapons personnel.

Hurtado plays a primary role in the small arms/small parcel shipping operation, maintaining accuracy and productivity standards (100% is required in weapons) throughout the year. In addition to his everyday workload, he constantly assists others in their workload ensuring the timely shipment of freight.

Hurtado builds comradery within the team through his unique sense of humor and his natural competitiveness, which creates a desire for excellence within those around him. He makes it a habit of assisting others, both superiors and peers. He takes the time to train and teach new team members with a unique “hands on” training that produces amazing results. He lives “warfighter first” by anticipating problems and challenges before they happen and tackling them immediately.

Hurtado’s demeanor, confidence and spirit of cooperation have been highly commendable during numerous crisis management situations. He always displays a strong work ethic, which had a positive effect on his co-workers. In his community, his work as an umpire and referee in multiple sports has earned the admiration of his co-workers and created an environment of community involvement within the entire organization. Every day, in everything he does, Hurtado’s work ethic shines through. He is more than an employee; he is a role model to his fellow DLA Distribution Anniston, Alabama, co-workers.
