Air Force, DLA strengthen collaborative efforts

By Dianne Ryder DLA Public Affairs

Defense Logistics Agency and Air Force leaders discussed readiness and synchronization during the annual Air Force/DLA Day at the McNamara Headquarters Complex Nov. 6.

DLA Director Army Lt. Gen. Darrell Williams said DLA can’t support the military services without regular collaboration. Service days are designed to address tough issues that DLA can help customers resolve and shouldn’t be looked at as just mutual admiration sessions, he added.

The event began with a tour of DLA’s new Agency Synchronization Operations Center, which Air Force Lt. Gen. Warren Berry, deputy chief of staff for logistics, engineering and force protection, called educational.

The first briefing focused on a review of the ASOC’s mission and capabilities and how the DLA Readiness Dashboard will continue capturing Air Force readiness rates.

Berry said he values the relationship his service has with DLA and having a forum to address vital issues such as demand planning, funding issues and product support for the F-35 joint strike fighter increases the value of that partnership.

The event closed with a review of takeaways and outstanding tasks.

Berry reiterated that the annual service days are only as valuable as the attendees make them, and the event allowed DLA and the Air Force a chance to inform, educate and collaborate as an enterprise.
