Associates recognize World Diabetes Day

By Brenda Minnema DLA Land and Maritime People and Culture

Defense Supply Center Columbus’ Wellness Council along with the Diabetes Support Group sponsored a Lunch and Learn for associates recognizing World Diabetes Day Nov. 14 in the Building 20 Cardinal Room.

The Cafe 20 chef prepared a balanced burrito bowl for the event. There were various starch, veggie and protein options; each food item was perfectly portioned.  The American Diabetes Association reports on its website knowing how much and what types of food items is important for managing diabetes.

“I just wanted to say thanks to all those that attended the World Diabetes Day event,” said Diabetes Support Group Lead Tessie Stanford. “I hope you had some takeaways and can implement some of the speaker’s suggestions.”

After the associates finished lunch, DSCC Wellness Council Vice-Chair Alonzo Burris discussed his personal journey to becoming medication free.  For a copy of the slides Burris used in the presentation, email him directly here.

Stanford continued to say, “Remember this support group is here to help you. I was insulin dependent and I am no longer…small changes make big differences and if you want to improve any of your numbers, let’s talk it out.”
