FORT BELVOIR, Virginia –
A lawyer, an economist, a soldier and a businesswoman. Pioneers in their careers and forward-leaning in their pursuit to deliver world-class customer service and furthering the legacy of our nation’s combat logistics support agency.
Kay Bushman, Lawrence Ervin, retired Army Col. Gregory Gibbons and Kathy Williams joined the list of distinguished Defense Logistics Agency Energy Hall of Fame inductees in a ceremony at McNamara Headquarters Complex, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Nov. 13.
“The four individuals being inducted into the DLA Energy Hall of Fame today exemplify the selfless sacrifice, hard work and leadership of people who make a positive impact on the DLA Energy community,” said DLA Energy Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. Albert Miller. “Their noteworthy accomplishments build on the historic foundation from which we continue to develop today’s energy solutions.”
Miller emphasized that the individuals were not selected because of their ranks or positions but rather on their professional accomplishments, sacrifices, and dedication to supporting the Warfighter.
Beginning her DLA Energy career in 1985, Kay Bushman served three decades in the Office of Counsel. Her extensive experience dealing with long-term contracts and international law proved invaluable, particularly during the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Often called a trusted mentor, talented mediator and masterful negotiator, Bushman provided sound legal and business advice senior leaders could rely on to make informed decisions for nearly 30 years.
Lawrence Ervin joined the Defense Fuel Supply Center’s Office of Market Research and Analysis as an analyst in September 1980. He remained in the Market Research Office his entire career, working his way through the ranks to become Chief, until his untimely passing in May 2006. Highly respected by his coworkers and peers, Ervin was regarded as a gifted economist whose opinions and insight were sought by agency senior leaders and fellow economists throughout the federal government.
Retired Army Col. Gregory Gibbons served as the Commander of Defense Fuel Region Middle East, Bahrain, from 1988-1991. His personal knowledge, relationship and influence with senior host nation officials permitted the effective sustainment of U.S. forces deployed to the Middle East without a single delay or quality problem. Gibbons’ personal contributions during a time of severe crisis were directly instrumental in the defense of Saudi Arabia, liberation of Kuwait and Operation Desert Storm’s total victory. In 2017, Gibbons was selected for the U.S. Army Quartermaster Hall of Fame in recognition of his critical combat support contributions as commander of DFSC Middle East.
During her 33-year career with the Department of Defense, Kathy Williams fought to maximize opportunities for small businesses across the full spectrum of DLA Energy acquisitions. Her advocacy for small businesses, innovative vision and relentless leadership helped to build the DLA Energy Office of Small Business Programs that is highly respected to this day.
“The success of DLA Energy can be attributed directly to the actions of remarkable individuals like Kay, Greg, Larry and Kathy,” Miller said. “The DLA Energy Hall of Fame is a special honor for those who’ve had a monumental impact on the organization … It is my distinct privilege and honor to recognize these American heroes today.”
