NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Mary M. Larkin, distribution process worker, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Norfolk, Virginia, has been awarded DLA Outstanding Junior Enlisted Reservist of the Year for fiscal year 2019.
Larkin was recognized for her outstanding leadership since checking aboard DLA Distribution Norfolk, which included a 22-day deployment to Poland in support of Exercise Saber Strike.
Assigned as a distribution process worker, Larkin has accepted additional duties as assistant command fitness leader and unit public affairs representative. During the award period, Larkin graduated from the 80-hour Expeditionary Academy course. Larkin took the initiative to practice and master on the job training skills required to become 100%qualified for her position in less than the allotted time.
Larkin became forklift licensed and completed Distribution Standard System familiarization to support an operational, 15-day annual training in support of the Material Process Center in Sigonella, Italy, where she worked with a team that saved nearly $41,000 in labor costs by processing nearly 7,000 items valued $1.5 million.
Serving as DLA Distribution Norfolk’s unit public affairs representative, Larkin has written and photographed significant events for her unit and command.
As a full-time student, Larkin has completed 27 credit hours toward a Bachelor of Science, Health and Physical Education from Tidewater Community College. She has volunteered 40 hours serving disadvantaged citizens at the Judeo-Christian Outreach Center in Virginia Beach and ran in a 5K race in support of the Make a Wish Foundation.
