Battle Creek, Mich. –
Property Disposal Specialist Chris Pearson is the Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services category three Employee of the Quarter for the start of fiscal 2020.
Pearson grew up in Alabama, where he spent his formative years in the town of Pelham. He said that after graduating high school, he majored in marketing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and graduated in 1989 with a bachelor’s of science in business. After college, he spent nearly two decades in retail store management, before coming to work for DLA Distribution Anniston in 2006 as an inventory technician. A year later, he moved over to DLA Disposition Services, where he remains to this day.
“I oversee scrap operations, the two [commercial venture] contracts and many other duties,” Pearson said. “My years of customer service experience have served me well. I try to go the extra mile to be friendly and help our customers and generators as much as possible and be good stewards of government property and funds.”
Pearson has gone to Kuwait twice for the agency and was a plankowner at the disposition site at Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan.
“It is such a privilege to work for DLA Disposition Services,” Pearson said. “I have wonderful co-workers, we act as a team. When someone is out, we fill the gap, because the show must go on.”
Pearson’s award nomination cited his efforts during a process change period that “would have put a high temperature alloy metal into a scrap commodity code that would have only paid the government [two] cents per pound, when historically this commodity would bring $4 [plus] per pound. With Chris's keen attention to detail … Chris kept the government from losing approximately $1 [million] annually. Chris is the ultimate team player who consistently performs assigned duties in a proficient and timely manner.”
“I am very proud to have been nominated and was floored when told I was chosen for first place,” Pearson said, who also tipped his cap to three “wonderful” daughters, two grandchildren, two dogs and a "pretty evil” cat.
