NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
A small group of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, senior leaders, military members and civilians said farewell to Marine Corps Master Sgt. Bryan J. Alberts, as he retired after more than 24 years of dedicated service to our country. Co-workers, friends and family, while practicing social distancing, were on hand to wish him well.
Army Col. James M. Callis, II, former DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, commander, welcomed all guests and rendered special thanks to Alberts's mom, Yvonne, his wife AnnMarie and their children, for supporting him during his military career. He acknowledged some of Alberts' assignments during his career, emphasizing that his senior leaders trusted him unwaveringly to place him in those roles. "We always knew Master Sergeant Alberts could handle the toughest of assignments and always produce sterling results," said Callis.
Callis then presented Alberts with the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his service at DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.
Alberts distinguished himself with meritorious achievement while serving for six months as the first Marine senior enlisted advisor and ending his service to the organization as the operations chief from June 2016 through June 2020.
According to his award citation, Alberts’ supply and logistics knowledge was paramount in providing timely processing of a variety of equipment and supplies to all military services in the United States, Europe, Middle East and Southern Command.
Alberts spent the last four years serving the warfighter alongside other military members, civilians and contractors.
“Working at DLA was a rewarding experience because it allowed me to witness firsthand the support DLA provides the military,” Alberts said. “The men and women of DLA support the warfighter 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.”
Rob Gore, chief warrant officer five, retired, was Alberts's retiring officer during the ceremony. Gore reminisced meeting young Corp. Alberts in May 2000, at the Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C. "I could not have been more thankful for his wisdom and sage advice during my time as the post supply officer when we supported the entire Capitol Area Region after the attack on the Pentagon Sept. 11, 2001."
Alberts’ deployments include Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation New Dawn in Afghanistan. “I accomplished everything I wanted in the Marine Corps,” said Alberts, of his military career.
