ANNISTON, Ala. –
Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Anniston, Alabama, recognizes Supervisor Supply Management Specialist Darryl McMillon as the 2019 Vehicle/material Handling Equipment Management Civilian Manager of the Year.
McMillon earned this award for his outstanding work performance. His knowledge and experience in dealing with the DLA Distribution Contracting Office was influential in the organization receiving nine vital new pieces of material handling equipment as well as other pieces of equipment, ahead of schedule, improving the morale, safety and welfare of the organization.
McMillon’s ability to work with DLA Distribution Installation Services and Operations Equipment, significantly contributed to the approval of a DDAA MHE request. McMillon was able to convince the approving officials that this equipment was required and his ability to acquire the equipment in a short period of time greatly contributed to the success of DDAA.
McMillon also aggressively worked with the Directorate of Public Works to maintain the organization’s aging fleet of transporter trucks. These trucks are critical to the mission of the organization moving material between several vital points of operation. McMillon’s astute management of equipment and close attention to detail in managing the organization’s MHE fleet has reduced the average age of the fleet to five years, far exceeding the average at other DLA distribution centers and resulted in an increase in overall readiness of the fleet.
McMillon’s significant contributions include establishing a preventative maintenance contract for the organization’s 80-ton Gantry Crane “Clyde.” The crane is an instrumental piece of equipment for the vehicles and artillery division and the organization. The PMC provides the ability to have outside experts perform periodic maintenance inspections on the crane and provides the ability to procure a temporary crane in the event the crane is not operational for an extended period. The contract was able to ensure a major item on the crane was repaired without any loss of production.
“McMillon is an invaluable asset to DDAA,” said Dr. Guy Taylor, DDAA deputy commander. “His professional performance, industrious attitude and devotion to duty are unsurpassed. He is an extremely reliable individual who promotes high morale and goodwill.”
