Kuwait-based disposal representative named employee of quarter

By Jake Joy DLA Disposition Services Public Affairs

Property Disposal Specialist Honner Raul Carbajal-Sanchez was recently named Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services Employee of the Quarter for his outstanding support advising U.S. warfighters serving across the Middle East as a disposition services representative stationed there.

The former Marine Corps supply specialist and Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran has spent the past three years with DLA, all while deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, and at a property disposal site in Qatar. He recently assumed greater responsibility as an acting site lead and he expressed appreciation for the chance to grow professionally.

“I am thankful for my leadership, especially Area Manager Fabrinzo ‘Juan’ Green, for giving me the opportunity and having trust and confidence in me to be able to act as the site lead for Qatar,” Carbajal-Sanchez said. “It was a great, tough experience for me, but a great learning experience overall for my career development, as one day I would like to run my own DLA Disposition Services site.”

In the award nomination, Green said Carbajal-Sanchez was his “number one choice” to serve as acting property disposal site lead at Al Udeid Air Base.

“Carbajal-Sanchez is the true epitome of a team player,” Green wrote. “His willingness to go above and beyond his normal scope of responsibility is second to none. Not only has he demonstrated leadership for Qatar, but also throughout the entire DSD Central area where he has received numerous compliments and recognition for performance.”

“I get to interact face to face with the customer,” Carbajal-Sanchez said of his day-to-day role as a DSR. “I am able to teach the fundamentals of DLA Disposition Services to our new customers, always putting the warfighters first. Acting site lead is giving me the opportunity to lead, train, and mentor both seasoned veterans and new employees.”

He said he enjoys soccer and spending time with his mother when he is home. And while this past year brought more than its fair share of challenges, Carbajal-Sanchez wanted to remind everyone that 2020 wasn’t all bad: two of his favorites, the Los Angeles Lakers and the L.A. Dodgers, both won their respective league championships. As a self-described “family-oriented” person, he said he appreciates the winning dynamic of his own worksite team.

“I really enjoy the family vibe,” he said. “We all look out for each other and ensure we stay motivated and positive as we face the challenges of being away from home and family.”
