By Annette Silva, DLA Distribution San Joaquin Public Affairs

Defense Logistics Agency Distribution San Joaquin, California, continues to provide critical support for the Defense Department’s COVID-19 mission, supporting DLA’s partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 rapid test kit mission.

The mission includes receipt, storage, component assembly, issue, transportation and delivery tracking of 6 million temperature-controlled rapid test kits through March. Components include test swab cartridges, swabs, readers and temperature-monitoring devices. The readers analyze specimens then transmit results to a mobile application in about 25 minutes.

Since Oct. 27, DDJC has received more than 88,000 COVID-19 rapid test kit cartridges and testing components. Employees have packed and shipped more than 68,000 test kits including monitoring systems and control swab packs nationwide to medical facilities on behalf of HHS.

Meanwhile, DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, has received more than 19,000 COVID-19 rapid test kit cartridges and testing components. Employees there have packed and shipped more than 10,000 rapid test kits to Defense Department customers worldwide.

DLA Distribution is using multiple transportation modes to reduce costs and speed delivery, including military air assets that fly shipments to locations not served by commercial carriers.

To maintain auditability and customers’ trust, distribution center employees are also tracking shipments by lot number and destination.
