DDDK’s NCOIC promoted to Army Master Sergeant

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Army Sgt. 1st Class Tommy Thompson III, was promoted to the rank of master sergeant during a virtual ceremony held at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Korea, Dec. 3.

Thompson, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, is the distribution center’s noncommissioned officer in charge.

Army Lt. Col. Corinne McClellan, DDDK commander and Macy Ooka, DDDK deputy commander, replaced Thompson’s rank insignia shoulder boards with newly minted master sergeant rank boards as Thompson’s wife, Tangie Thompson and their 1-year-old son, Trenton, viewed his promotion via website link. Additional Thompson family members witnessed the ceremony via online stateside.

Other virtual attendees included DLA INDO-PACOM Commander, Navy Capt. Jason Adams, DLA INDO-PACOM Deputy Commander, Angel Colon, DLA INDO-PACOM Military Deputy Commander, Army Col. Julia Bell and Rodney Wrotten, from the Korean Theater of Operations.

McClellan remarked how proud she was to host the ceremony and lauded Thompson on his accomplishments thus far. “As the Deputy NCOIC, Master Sgt. Thompson has excelled as the silent professional and jack of all trades completing operational, technical and contingency related tasks are ensured seamlessly.”

“It’s an honor to host this momentous ceremony celebrating his 21 years of service and duly earned promotion to master sergeant,” continued McClellan, “During that time, you’ve completed five deployments, years of separation from family, and numerous other sacrifices. It’s not lost on the deputy and I that we are celebrating your promotion and thanking your family for their numerous sacrifices – one being virtually attending your promotion during your yearlong tour to Korea.”

Thompson considers his service, and promotion, an honor. “It's a blessing to achieve the rank of master sergeant and I look forward to the new challenges this promotion will bring. I credit my parents for instilling core values and a good work ethic. I want to thank my wife, Tangie for all of her support throughout the many years of my career.”

Thompson’s cousin Rhonda, who watched the ceremony via the web, received loud laughter and chuckles from those in the room and watching online, from her congratulatory comments. “Tommy! I’m so proud of you! You know the family isn’t speaking because they don’t know how to work the mute button!”
