Two Defense Logistics Agency leaders had a firsthand look at how DLA supports U.S. military bases in Alaska and engaged with DLA customers in the surrounding area.

DLA Indo-Pacific Commander Navy Capt. Jason Adams recently accompanied DLA Energy Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. Jimmy Canlas to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, as part of their orientation visit.

The key strategic customer visits included the U.S. Army Alaska and Alaska North American Aerospace Defense Command.

While touring the Air Force 3rd Wing at Elmendorf Air Force Base, they witnessed a demonstration a F-22 maximum propulsion engine run in the Engine Test Cell Hush House.

Both leaders toured several locations such as the Port of Anchorage while receiving various briefings and meeting with staff leaders and members from DLA Energy Alaska, Installation Operations, Troop Support and Disposition Services.

At a ribbon- cutting ceremony for the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Fuels Management Operations Facility, Alaska, Canlas, said the $14 million fiscal 2019 military construction project reduces response time for fighter operations on JBER. It also greatly improves safety for airman by providing covered refueler parking, reducing the danger of climbing on top of vehicles in winter weather conditions. Representatives from the Army Corps of Engineers and the 673rd Air Base Wing, were also in attendance.

Following the visit to Alaska, Adams hosted Canlas in Hawaii, and accompanied Canlas to Guam before returning home.

DLA operations in Alaska include DLA Indo-Pacific, DLA Energy, DLA Installation Management, DLA Troop Support, DLA Disposition Services, and DLA Information Operations with approximately 32 personnel assigned at Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska.
