BATTLE CREEK, Mich –
The Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center MWR Fitness Center took steps towards pre-pandemic business operations by reopening its aerobic and circuit training rooms and expanding its fitness room maximum occupancy to 15 people July 5.
The aerobic and circuit training rooms have been closed since March 2020 and until recently, the fitness center’s maximum occupancy was eight.
HDIFC MWR Fitness Manager Martha Kerns is excited to offer more opportunities on-site to assist employees in building their physical resiliency especially after the last year.
“The fitness center management and staff are looking forward to the reopening of the aerobic and circuit rooms,” Kerns said. “The circuit room houses the Wellbeats system containing aerobic and strength training classes in a virtual form with all necessary equipment needed [for fitness classes] and the aerobic room has functional training equipment,” she said.
Wellbeats is a virtual fitness platform that offers a variety of individual or group classes like spin, yoga and circuit training. The aerobic room is equipped with functional fitness equipment like a squat rack, weightlifting platform, a rower, plyometrics boxes and more.
All fitness center rooms are by appointment only and appointments start at the top of the hour and last 50 minutes. The last 10 minutes of the hour are delegated to fitness center staff so they can clean equipment prior to the next appointment.
“We are missing our clients, warfighters and retirees,” Kerns added. “We can’t wait to see them back once we reopen full time.”
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only HDIFC employees who have transitioned back to the HDIFC may resume MWR Fitness Center privileges. Once HDIFC is in phase 3, all eligible MWR recipients may use the fitness center.
The fitness center is in 2C-B-1 and the hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. – by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call (269) 961-5350.
