NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
The Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management Susquehanna Fire Department received accredited agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International for meeting the criteria established through the CFAI’s voluntary self-assessment and accreditation program Aug. 24.
Barry J. Shughart, the DLA Installation Management Susquehanna fire chief, is happy the department received accredited agency status.
“The department’s achievement of accredited agency status demonstrates our commitment to provide the highest quality of service to Defense Logistics Agency, the Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna and our surrounding communities,” he said. “We have also been able to use the CFAI’s process as a proactive mechanism to plan for the future of this department and locate areas where we can improve on the quality of service we provide.”
CFAI is dedicated to assisting the fire and emergency services agencies throughout the world in achieving excellence through self-assessment and accreditation in order to provide continuous quality improvement and the enhancement of service delivery to their communities. The CFAI process is voluntary and provides an agency with an improvement model to assess their service delivery and performance internally and then works with a team of peers from other agencies to evaluate their completed self-assessment.
The DLA Susquehanna fire department is one of more than 250 agencies to achieve internationally accredited agency status with the CFAI and the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc.
DLA Susquehanna was initially accredited in 2010 and has since been reaccredited a total of three times. Members have spent countless hours examining past, current and future services, as well as internal performance metrics to compare them to current research and industry best practices.
