BATTLE CREEK, Mich. –
Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services Director Mike Cannon addressed the workforce in another virtual Director’s Call Sept. 21.
As COVID-19 positivity rates increase, Cannon made the executive decision to move forward with another pre-recorded town hall.
Cannon started the Director’s Call recognizing employees who were recently awarded the Global War on Terrorism, Superior Civilian Service and Meritorious Civilian Service awards. On the following slide, he pointed out the short list of deployed DLA Disposition Services military reservists and civilians.
“Pretty short slide and it’s going to continue to be that way for the foreseeable future,” he said. “Deployments are thinning out a little bit but we still have warfighter support going on in Qatar, Kuwait and Djibouti by these outstanding volunteers.”
September is Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month and Cannon discussed resources available to help those who may be emotionally hurting and don’t know who to turn to for help.
“It’s up to us as partners, as teammates, as friends, as supervisors and as family members to help them out when they are in that situation,” he said.
At the last Director’s Call, Cannon announced that future town halls will include a brief explanation from directorate directors on how DLA Disposition Services’ strategic plan initiatives are nested in DLA’s strategic plan. This month, DLA Disposition Services Director of Operations Arthur Welsh presented on the Reconstitution of Training by Specialization initiative.
The pilot program will provide new employees a better understanding of the property receiving process, impacts of external and internal processes and customer involvement within those processes.
“The intent of this training is to get people trained within the first six to eight weeks of them coming on board,” said Welsh. “We hope to hear a bunch of questions from everyone in the field on how we’re going to do this; we need your input.”
Other discussion topics included field office realignment updates, site improvements from DLA Installation Management, unique items from the field and subject-matter experts answering questions from the workforce.
Cannon ended with, “thank you very much. Have a great day; be safe. We’re out from Battle Creek."
