DLA Installation Management Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, Security & Emergency Services National Preparedness Month week #5 tip – emergency notification alert systems

By Rick Zucchero, installation emergency manager, DLA Installation Management Susquehanna

Each week this month, Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, Security & Emergency Services provided helpful tips and resources focusing on hazard preparedness in recognition of National Preparedness Month.

As the month of September ends and we transition from summer to fall, National Preparedness Month comes to a close.  However, we never know when a disaster may strike, so being prepared for disasters and emergencies is a mindset that we should have all year long!

Notification of emergencies is an essential element of preparedness. Personnel may need warnings and instructions about exactly which protective actions to take during an emergency.  On our New Cumberland installation, we have a robust voice system in and around nearly every occupied building. In addition, the AtHoc electronic notification system is used to send texts, calls, emails, etc.

AtHoc is DLA’s Mass Warning Notification System. The system allows the agency to reach employees with timely and accurate information during an emergency. Employees are encouraged to add personal contact information to the system to ensure they get information quickly, even if they are out of the building.

To keep your AtHoc information up to date, select the AtHoc Globe from the hidden icon box under the up arrow in the bottom right of your desktop.

Also, consider signing up for alerts in your community. In Pennsylvania, we have AlertPA, a notification system for emergency and weather-related alerts, health notifications and other updates from Pennsylvania and federal agencies.
