By Connie Braesch DLA Energy Public Affairs

Recognizing his “remarkable dedication and skill,” the State of Texas House of Representatives adopted Resolution No. 140 to “commend Staff Sergeant Calvin Williams for his service during Hurricane Ida and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in his important work.”

During a Nov. 2 ceremony in Sugar Land, Texas, District 26 State Representative Jacey Jetton personally presented Williams the resolution, thanking him for his service and support.

“It is no surprise that Staff Sergeant Williams executed support to Task Force Americas so well because of the leadership qualities he demonstrates as talked about by notable leadership author John Maxwell,” Jetton said. “He exhibits exceptional character.”

Williams is both a civilian resolution specialist and an Army Reserve Staff Sergeant with Defense Logistics Agency Energy Americas East. His experience and skills played a crucial part in deploying with DLA Energy Task Force Americas to help the citizens of Texas following the landfall of Hurricane Ida in the fall of 2021. Task Force Americas is a team of DLA Energy employees who respond to and support the Federal Emergency Management Agency in a variety of emergency situations under the Defense Support of Civil Authorities mission.

Williams was on site for 18 days traveling throughout the devastated region. Specializing in the tracking of distribution of fuel and working with vendors, he moved from site to site to get fuel where it was needed based on changing conditions.

“He deployed to Louisiana in advance of Hurricane Ida, he shuttled between three different FEMA Incident Support Bases and played a vital role in coordinating the delivery of hundreds of thousands of gallons of fuel with nearly 100 trucks,” the resolution cited. “Through his expertise, professionalism, and commitment to service, Calvin Williams has greatly benefited his fellow citizens in a time of crisis, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his valuable contributions.”

David Kless, DLA Energy deputy commander, congratulated Williams, and the entire DLA Energy Americas team for their “hard work and dedication to this critical support effort.”
