Director, Resource Management
Battle Creek, Michigan

Describe your job in a sentence or two. My Directorate is responsible for resource management which includes the government purchase cards, government travel cards, Eagle support, HR support, DTS, MHE training, deployment plans, etc. We basically have “tentacles” into every part of Disposition Services.

How long have you worked for the federal government including military service? 36 years including over 20 years active duty with the Air Force.

How long have you worked for DLA? Almost 17 years

What is your favorite thing about your line of work? I really enjoy meeting and working with people from different parts of DLA and the DOD…that’s the best way to learn.

What is the best piece of advice someone has given you? Treat others how you want to be treated.

What is one characteristic that you believe every leader should possess? Treat everyone with respect and be fair.

Tell us how you approach change. I welcome it…the saying goes “ the only constant is change,” well, if it’s constant its not really change it’s just life, so you roll with it.

What do you look for when evaluating top talent? Find folks willing to work and that want to be part of a team.  That’s more important than finding the perfect fit for a particular position…hire someone with drive and a good work ethic, the rest will take care of itself.

What are your best practices for achieving goals or accomplishing tasks? Boil everything down to the lowest level and really work to determine the must haves…too often we get stuck spending time on things that are not critical to accomplishing the mission.

What would you have done differently in your career if given the opportunity? Not one thing.

What was your first job?  I worked at McDonalds “flipping hamburgers.”

What is your best memory of working here?   It’s ongoing…meeting dozens of great and very smart people and learning from them.

Who is your hero?  My paternal grandfather.

What are your hobbies? Traveling with my wife, golf and hunting…in that order.

What is your favorite quote? Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.  -- Calving Coolidge
