DLA participates in U.S. Fleet Activities Yokosuka Safety Fair

By DLA Indo-Pacific DLA Public Affairs

Members from Defense Logistics Agency Indo-Pacific and DLA Distribution Yokosuka participated in the U.S. Fleet Activities Yokosuka Safety Fair Nov. 15 at Naval Base Yokosuka, Japan. The public event was sponsored by various commands and the local Japanese police department.

The fair focused on preventing driving under the influence and mishaps. Handouts were provided on traffic, bicycle and pedestrian safety. A “drunk goggles” booth allowed participants to simulate the effects of alcohol consumption on the body. Various sets of goggles were available representing increasing levels of intoxication from blood alcohol concentration of 0.02 to 0.25. After donning the goggles, visitors attempted to catch tennis balls, walk heel-to-toe in a straight line and ride a tricycle through a winding course. Performing the tasks was a struggle even for those with the lowest level of impairment.

DLA Indo-Pacific Safety Specialist Camilla Lawson, Navy Logistics Specialist Petty Officer 2nd Class Junjian Guan, Navy Logistics Specialist Petty Officer 1st Class Daniel Marvin and Navy Logistics Specialist Petty Officer 2nd Class Jian Yong Liu manned the DLA booth during the fair.
