Acquisition professionals receive award honors

By Michael Molinaro, Information Operations

Defense Logistics Agency’s Information Operations Acquisition Support Office was awarded the agency’s 2021 DLA Acquisition Support Professional of the Year Award-Team.

The ASO is a group of acquisition professionals who provide subject matter expertise in complex DoD acquisition policy, execution, and compliance. The team supports innovation and agility in the development, delivery, operation, and sustainment of information technology acquisitions across the spectrum of operations for DLA and DoD Enterprises.

The ASO’s support has facilitated the on-time fielding of capabilities across business systems and services that support the warfighter across the Department of Defense. To date, the ASO has surged to support $825M in acquisitions, and advised on acquisition strategies, contracting strategies, contract package review, cost estimating, risk management plans and risk mitigation. Their critical support ensured the acquisition enterprise, including Defense Business Systems, ERP Migration, and cross-DoD initiatives, were strategically postured to support the warfighter today and in the future.

Most recently, the ASO has been crucial to the success of moving ERP to the Cloud—a critical first step in DLA’s ERP Transformation. The ASO led the first five-person citizen developer team, piloting the ability to drive better platform integration across the board, achieving government employee configuration of the platform to meet the expectation for a minimally viable product using the ADW workflow. And their facilitation of the 2021 Cross-Services PEO Summit ensured SES-level cross-talk cross the DoD to further the effectiveness and efficiencies in the collective DoD business systems capabilities and initiatives.

“I’m exceptionally proud of our team for tackling every challenge as an opportunity for continuous improvement, and their dedication to collaborate and excel to the highest degree possible,” said Dr. Mary Haley, ASO Director.

11 government members make up the award-winning team. Contractors are also members of the ASO and are considered pivotal to the team’s success, Haley said.

“2022 brings new opportunities to embrace agile acquisition concepts and push the limits on embracing discipline with acquisition while working in an adaptive, flexible, and rapidly evolving environment,” Haley said.
