Can you tell us about yourself?
I retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the US Navy with 24 years. My wife Lisa and I have been married for 35 years, we have two children, Jessica, and Hunter. Two grandchildren, Blaine, and Bree. I was Raised in Niagara Falls, New York.
Describe your job in a sentence or two. Area Manager for DLA Disposition Services at Susquehanna.
What is your area of responsibility? Warfighter support for over 3,000 customers which range from northern Maine throughout the Northeast into Pennsylvania.
How long have you worked for DLA Disposition Services? 40 years total federal service as of this past March. 16 of those right here at Susquehanna.
What is your favorite thing about your line of work? The challenges of operating with an ever-changing environment.
What is the best piece of advice someone has given you? Never give up the ship.
What is one characteristic that you believe every leader should possess? Lead by example, be part of the team, part of the solution.
What is your leadership philosophy and how does that tie into your line of work? Be fair and consistent, recognize employee efforts. Every one of us is different and has a different story to tell.
What do you look for when evaluating top talent? Consistency, motivation, honesty, willingness to accept responsibility and be a team builder.
What do you believe is your biggest accomplishment and why? In my Military career it was leading a small group of shipmates abroad without loss, in Federal service there are many and more ahead.
What are your best practices for achieving goals or accomplishing tasks? Set the bar high, accept feedback, listen, ask questions and accept responsibility.
What do you see as your biggest challenge right now? Retention of the workforce at the level entry positions. Employees seek advancement and financial stability. Being co-located with DLA Distribution affords level entry employees the opportunity to increase pay and upward mobility due to locality increase and advancement.
Name your favorite/recent book(s) you have read. The Battle of Gettysburg, Bruce Catton.
Tell us something that most people might not know about you or your directorate? I’m a Master Machinist by trade.
What was your first job? My first job was manufacturing radiator caps for Harrison Radiator when I was 14 years old in Buffalo, New York.
What is your best memory of working here? Overcoming hardships as one team with unwavering support.
What did you want to be when you grew up? A professional hockey player for the Buffalo Sabers.
Who is your hero? I have many, my family, my children, my higher power.
If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be? Spend the day with my dad.
What are your hobbies? Fishing, riding my scoot, rummaging flea markets.
