NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
Navy Rear Adm. Grafton D. Chase, commander of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution, visited DLA Distribution Korea Nov. 16. Chase toured the new, state-of-the-art warehouse building and received an operations and administrative overview of DDDK by the command team. The overview provided the layout of DDDK’s facilities on Camp Carroll, the chain of command hierarchy, DDDK’s concept of support and how the subordinate command ties into the overarching global DLA Distribution support plan.
DDDK also provided Chase with updates on the new warehouse building modifications pending sub-contractor action and an opportunity to see the vertical storage layout as compared to the older horizontal space. Chase saw the palletized racks, package racks, the vendor lift modules, mapping section, conveyor system, pilferable cage and the new material handling equipment.
The DDDK team showed Chase the bulk storage operations, more of the stacking and unloading conveyor system, the current hazardous materials facility as well as the plan for creating additional bulk storage.
He toured the new administrative offices and the emergency operations center to see the improvement of these capabilities over the current footprint. A window tour of the DDDK swing space provided a visual of the material relocation progress and open shed/bulk storage challenges.
Chase also toured the currently operating warehouse to see the theater consolidation and shipping point, receiving, storage, preservation, packaging, packing and marking and packing area. He also received a brief from the receiving department lead on the successful use of the new scales.
The tour concluded with a DDDK employee town hall where Chase engaged with employees and spoke in detail on his command philosophy, the DDDK mission and the importance of safety.
