OPM survey to launch early May

By Christine Born DLA Public Affairs

This week Defense Logistics Agency employees will begin receiving emails from the Office of Personnel Management prompting them to take the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey. The links are legitimate, and employees are encouraged to take the 91-question survey.

The FEVS is an organizational climate survey that assesses how employees feel about their work experiences, organization and leadership. It is scheduled to run through June 23.

The government-wide survey is sent to all federal employees who have been at their current agency as of Nov. 30. Contractors, non-federal employees, foreign nationals and political appointees are not eligible.

DLA Culture Program Manager Shannon Lewis cautioned employees not to confuse the survey with DLA’s 2023 Culture and Climate Survey, which is expected to launch in late July.

“Feedback from both surveys helps us to be in line with the DLA Vision and provides the tools needed to improve our culture,” Lewis said.

The FEVS gives federal employees the chance to provide honest feedback that’s critical to creating effective, responsive agencies, OPM Director Kiran A. Ahuja said in an OPM memorandum to all federal agencies.

“Providing agencies with a reliable method for capturing and analyzing employee feedback, benchmarking successes, and identifying emerging opportunities and challenges is key to retaining the best employees and recruiting talented new hires into the federal government,” she said.

Feedback from the FEVS and DLA’s 2023 Culture and Climate Survey will help DLA measure items like job satisfaction and opinions on leadership. Lewis said results will help the agency build on strengths and address challenges.

The FEVS is one of the largest employee surveys in the country. In 2022, it was sent to 1.6 million employees. Over 500,000 responded, and DLA had a 26.4 % response rate.

OPM first administered FEVS in 2002 as the Federal Human Capital Survey and then again in 2004, 2006 and 2008. The FHCS was renamed the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey in 2010 and revised to focus more on actionable items and has been administered annually since.
