DLA Energy Middle East welcomes a new military commander

By Connie Braesch DLA Energy Public Affairs

Defense Logistics Agency Energy Middle East bid farewell to Army Lt. Col. Alberto Cordova and welcomed the incoming commander, Army Lt. Col. Jamie Pittman, during a Change of Command Ceremony in Bahrain, June 7.

“To the team, thank you for making the impossible, possible,” Cordova said. “The support you provided to the Warfighter in areas like Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon, and throughout the Middle East has been incredible. You provided the flexibility for the Services to accomplish their mission.”

Cordova received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his leadership and management of more than 21 Direct Delivery Fuel sites, 15 Defense Fuel Support Points, nine International Agreements, and 53 contracts across nine countries.

Critical to the fuel drawdown across Afghanistan in support of the President’s withdrawal timeline, Cordova led the closure of fuel operations within Afghanistan while also maintaining fuel support throughout the region to facilitate the largescale evacuation of over 122,000 individuals from Afghanistan, the citation read.

During his remarks, Pittman thanked Cordova for the smooth transition.

“The team that you’ve assembled is outstanding,” Pittman said. “I look forward to building upon your legacy.”
