Name: Scott Stapleton

Organization: DLA Aviation at Oklahoma City

Years of service: 14 years

What is your job title and what do you do specifically? I am a lead sustainment specialist. In this capacity, I help them learn the computer system processes such as the enterprise business system, and coach them in resolving issues. I also pull status reports to monitor our section’s progress and build data bases that are sent out to our customers to assist them in forecasting the items they need.

What do you like most about your job and why? I enjoy working with various weapon systems from a vantage point where I get to see more of the big picture. When issues surface, it helps me determine what can be done to resolve them. I also continue to learn at my job which keeps me from falling into a rut.

What are your best practices for achieving goals or accomplishing tasks? I approach every task believing that any action is better than no action and every mistake is a learning experience. Also, I’m not afraid to ask questions since that is how you learn.

Have you had a mentor that helped you grow in your career?  If so who, and how did they help? I believe everyone I know is a mentor. My mindset is that you can learn something from everyone because they have different experiences to share. If you won’t listen, you are limiting your own knowledge.

If you could pick a personal motto, what would it be and why? My motto is to learn something new every day. You never know what information will be useful in the future.

What are some of your passions outside of work? I enjoy racing four-wheeled all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes. When I’m not working on my dirt bikes or racing four wheelers, I also like repairing cars. I’m currently rebuilding a 1946 Ford truck.
