PHILADELPHIA –
Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s Medical and Subsistence supply chains hit the softball field for some friendly competition July 26 in Philadelphia. Through seven innings, and a final score of eight to seven, the Subsistence supply chain secured their spot as the 2023 DLA Troop Support Softball Champions.
The Medical team, wearing red, was coached by Business Systems Analyst Lawrence Newton. The Subsistence team, wearing green, was coached by Contract Specialist Gwen Garcia and Logistics Career Broadening Officer Air Force Col. Tia Becker.
DLA Troop Support Deputy Commander Kishayra Lambert—wearing purple to stay neutral—threw out the opening pitch, and the game was on!
“The energy on the field was incredibly positive,” Lambert said. “Taking the famous DLA teamwork from the office to the field leads to a deeper workplace culture.”
Each supply chain’s Cultural Improvement Team planned and promoted the event. The supply chains held regular practices to sharpen their skills ahead of the softball game.
“It’s so nice to see people interacting and bonding through good sportsmanship,” said Becker, as she cheered her teammates on.
CIT events are organized to boost morale and give people the opportunity to get to know each other beyond the office.
“This event is an incredible boost to Troop Support’s morale,” said Garcia. “Comradery and teamwork came together today to make this game happen.”
