BATTLE CREEK, Mich. –
Positioned 37 miles to the south of the nation's capital, Marine Corps Base Quantico stands as a pivotal nexus for the Marines. Herbert Curisinche, the supervisor of production operations for the Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services-Document Services site on the base, aptly describes it as the "Crossroads" for the Corps.
Within its confines, the base boasts a multitude of officer training commands and is home to the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy. This storied installation, founded by the Marines in 1917, has played a crucial role in the training of countless Marines since World War I.
According to Terry Farrell, the east branch chief of DLA Disposition Services-Document Services, the very building currently occupied by the Quantico team was erected in 1919. Maps from that era label the structure as "Quartermaster Depot."
In the 80s, Curisinche's shop first took root within these historic walls, initially established by the Navy. In 1996, it transitioned to its present alignment under DLA.
The range of services provided by Curisinche's team is extensive, encompassing color and black-and-white digital printing, saddle stitching, binding, lamination, stapling, hole punching, cutting, folding, desktop publishing, posters, business cards, and more.
Curisinche's team supports a host of missions across the region, including the Marines Basic School, an institution dedicated to the education of newly commissioned officers. It instructs officers in the responsibilities, duties, and essential warfighting skills requisite for the role of rifle platoon commander.
Notably, the team also lends its expertise to Marine Helicopter Squadron One, commonly referred to as Marine One, which serves as the presidential helicopter. The squadron’s contributions extend well beyond this role. They also serve as the premier operational test and evaluation unit for Marine assault support helicopters and associated equipment.
Historically, Curisinche's team has been called upon to assist the White House, underscoring their reliability and significance on a broader national stage.
Looking toward the future, Curisinche said his objectives for the upcoming year include the recruitment of two new members to fill positions left vacant by team members who have moved on. With a consistent yearly production output of 8,000,000 units and the incorporation of advanced digital printers and new personnel, he anticipates a notable upsurge in this figure.
