FORT BELVOIR, Va. –
Two weeks shy of the Air Force’s 76th birthday, Defense Logistics Agency Director Vice Adm. Michelle Skubic welcomed senior logistics leaders from across the service and DLA to the annual Air Force/DLA Day.
The theme of the Sept. 8 meeting was “Set the Theater in a Contested Logistics Environment,” focusing on partnerships with Air Force leaders as they develop capabilities in the Indo-Pacific theater.
“It’s all the daily work – 365 days a year – that’s critically important,” Skubic said in her opening remarks. “Today is an opportunity to huddle and see if we’ve got our bearings straight. But candidly, this isn’t where the work happens, and it’s great to reconnect, get those touch points and talk about those challenges we’re focused on together.”
The agenda focused on current and future sustainment and logistics challenges. Presentations included legacy weapons system management, supply readiness, demand planning, next generation weapons systems, the Warehouse Management System and G-Invoicing.
“We’re going to talk about where we’re partnering on solutions and how we’re setting ourselves up for success,” Skubic said.
The topics spurred discussions on working together to maintain readiness while dealing with limited resources, as well as improving weapons system sustainment and improving the contracting process.
Lorna Estep, executive director of Air Force Materiel Command, said It’s important that DLA and the Air Force continue to partner for capabilities that continue to mature the joint force.
Skubic summarized all the work DLA has ahead to continue building on a strong foundation of partnership with the Air Force and all the services.
“We’ve got admin work on the G-Invoicing side; we’ve got audit work; we’ve got IT systems rollouts – we have so much work going on. And on top of all that is the most critical imperative, which is supporting the warfighter, sustaining lethality and preparing for the fight,” she said.
DLA service day meetings show the agency’s continued commitment to building strong strategic partnerships and ensuring warfighter readiness.
