DLA Distribution commander delivers Space Force birthday message

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Today marks the 4th birthday of the United States Space Force. Our newest service branch’s mission is to secure our Nation’s interests in, from, and to space.

The U.S. Space Force was established December 20, 2019, with the signing of the National Defense Authorization Act, creating the first new military force since 1947, making it the sixth branch of the Armed Forces. Its creation resulted from the widespread recognition that space is a national security imperative. Organized within the Department of the Air Force, the USSF functions at an equal level as the U.S. Air Force, similar to how the Marine Corps is structured within the Department of the Navy.

Although the USSF is the newest military service, the Defense Department has been involved in space since the early days of space exploration. Coupled with the growing threat from strategic competitors in space, it was clear there was a need for a military service focused solely on the pursuit of superiority in space.

USSF integrates satellite procurement, budgets, and personnel from more than 60 different organizations to integrate efficient and effective space operations services.  Maintaining Space Superiority is an emerging capability needed and required to protect U.S. space assets from any attack. Access and freedom to operate in space is fundamental to national security and economic prosperity.

Still, potential adversaries are seeking ways to deny the United States access to space capabilities that are essential to both warfare and our way of life. These adversaries deploy a variety of threats on Earth and in orbit that continue to grow in size, scope, and complexity. The military and civilian Space Force Guardians work to protect and defend our Nation's interest in space to ensure that our forces, allies, and people can harness space whenever and wherever needed.

Mr. Knight and I would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued dedicated support.  Our Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen and Guardians would not be able to perform their critical missions without our incredible DLA Distribution workforce.

Please join us in recognizing the achievements and accomplishments of the US Space Force and its Guardians on its 4th year in service.

Happy Birthday Space Force – Semper Supra!

G. D. CHASE
