Acknowledgement, gratitude and responsive leadership were running themes of the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support town hall on Jan. 11
DLA Troop Support Commander Army Col. Landis Maddox hosted his third town hall meeting and expressed workforce appreciation, highlighted major supply chain accomplishments, and discussed his style of responsive leadership
Maddox opened the town hall by acknowledging Troop Support staff and the significance of each employee in supporting the Warfighter.
“We have a lot of unsung heroes here at Troop Support. Our staff is the engine that makes things happen, but it doesn’t always get the credit,” he explained. “I am so proud of what we did last year and I’m looking forward to being even better this year. These are not easy tasks; it takes the work of the entire team to make things happen.”
Maddox also discussed major 2023 supply chain accomplishments, congratulating Troop Support staff and detailing milestones met in the previous fiscal year.
“When we talk about the actual accomplishment, we lead with the materiel supply chains. It was a banner year for us; the organization had $20.4 billion in gross sales,” Maddox explained, “it looks like traditionally we're going to grow and gain a billion dollars each year. That is huge and I take my hat off to you!”
Responding to requests for a leadership shadowing program—an example of his style of responsive leadership—Maddox added he would be the first leader accepting applications. The program is slated to return in this spring.
Maddox said, “I want us to get better and press our leaders to do that in every aspect. Six months ago, I asked you for three things we can improve on. One of them was reintroducing a rotation program, specifically a command shadow program.” Maddox explained, “I am first up, so you will see what happens in my world, the meetings I have to go to and who is trying to convince me to do what and where.”
To update the staff on workplace matters, Maddox invited leadership from DLA Human Resources, DLA Installation Management, DLA Command Support and the EAP Coordinator from Magellan.
DLA HR Troop Support Customer Account Manager Katherine McMahon briefed the audience on HR representation on base and a variety of assistance available to employees.
McMahon said: “We are always here to assist you. Send us an email and we will get back to you. You are always welcome to visit us in building 45” and “please refer to LMS for a variety of new courses tailored to the range of work done at Troop Support.”
Ending the meeting with a pep rally, Maddox provided predictions for the football season and expressed his gratitude to his new hometown of Philadelphia.
“People always ask me why cheer for the Eagles while having my beloved Texans jersey on. I cannot live in Philadelphia without rooting for the Eagles. I live in Philadelphia now, so I am 100% in!”
